Citizen Participation in Government Decisions

Early in my thirty-five years of service to the community, I realized that the most successful government achievements came when citizen participation was incorporated into those efforts. A prime example of this was the replacement of the raucous Spring Breaks with a more diverse and broad based tourism industry. Although Fort Lauderdale boasts many citizen advisory boards, I can assure you that recently, their functions have been looked upon with disdain, contempt and an attitude of “how dare you tell me what to do.”

As your commissioner, I will be employed by you and will listen to you and work for you. Not only will I re-energize and listen to our advisory boards, but I will work to revitalize community involvement in political decisions by keeping everyone informed. I will have a true community open door policy to listen to your concerns and become an advocate for you.
