Commissioner Roberts' leadership includes:

Managing the Budget and Not Increasing Your Millage Rate- Commissioner Roberts has consistently voted for No increase  in the millage rate and the fire assessment fee since first elected in 2009.  The General Operating Fund has been reduced by a total of $18 million, without decreasing vital City services.  Our reserve funds stand at 20 %  of the General Fund Budget. The current operating millage rate of 4.1193% is the second lowest rate among Florida's 25 largest cities.

Public Safety- As your Former Police Chief, and a person who grew up in Fort Lauderdale (graduate of Cardinal Gibbons High School), and raised his family in Fort Lauderdale, Commissioner Roberts spearheaded Police and Fire Pension Reform. The city's public safety pension reform is referred to as one of the models for large departments around the State. The next projects Commissioner Roberts is tackling is working with the City and the County in addressing the needs of a stronger regional 911 communications center and reinstituting Community Policing.

Neighborhood Initiatives- Commissioner Roberts' office received 364 calls for service this past year alone, and believes communicating with residents is a top priority. A few of his actions include initiating traffic studies and upgrading  our roads and bridges within the neighborhoods; advocating for the Greenway Program Enhancements along A1A; opening new parks, revitalizing existing parks and installing lightning warning systems; landscaping along East Commercial and East Oakland Park Boulevards and NE 18th Avenue; strengthening enforcement and working towards solutions to address the growing homeless population impacting our City;  changes to our municipal codes while enhancing opportunities  for our small businesses; expansion of trolley connectors from the Galt to the Galleria Mall, Coral Ridge Shopping Center and Holy Cross Hospital.

Pain Clinics- Our City Commission has enacted an ordinance strengthening the State's laws regulating the operations of pain clinics. The City's ordinance highlights include no queuing of customers outside on the premises;  restricting location to at least 500 feet from schools, churches, parks, libraries or daycare facilities; no employees with felony or drug related conviction backgrounds; and required inspection of the premises with annual license renewal.
